In October of 2002, I headed down to Daytona to cover the Campbell's International Figure Skating Classic for U.S. Figure Skating. In addition to writing the article on the event for SKATING magazine, I was to supply both action and "atmosphere" photos for their website. Shooting the atmosphere photos is one of my favorite things to do. So many people see the glamour of the sport on TV, but don't get to appreciate that it's not always so pretty.

At the close of the event, commentator Peter Carruthers usually interviews the winners. This night, he sat with Sarah Hughes, Michelle Kwan, and Ann Patrice McDonough (L-R) who placed 3rd, 1st, and 2nd, respectively. Before the cameras rolled, however, a woman attacked Peter with a giant powder puff, much to the amusement of the ladies sitting next to him.

Canon Elan II body, Canon 80-200/2.8 lens, Fuji Press 800 film. Exposure unrecorded.
